Google Business Profile optimization

The profile is what Google shows when someone searches your business or your trade in your area. Most profiles were set up once and never touched. We rebuild it around what your buyers search for and manage it every month.

Working with US businesses since 2019, including Lincroft Village Jeweler, The Hive Bar and Bistro and United Rack Solutions.

What is Google Business Profile optimization?

It is the work of making a Google Business Profile complete, accurate and matched to the searches you want to appear for: the primary and secondary categories, the list of services and products with descriptions, business hours and attributes, photos with locations, regular posts, and replies to every review. An optimized profile is the main input to whether Google shows you in the map pack and how often it turns a search into a call.

What the audit scores. Every field Google reads, yours against the three profiles in the map pack.

Why does a Google Business Profile stop ranking?

Because Google only has what the profile tells it. A profile with a generic category, three services listed and no photos since 2021 gives Google no reason to prefer it over a competitor with the right category, forty services, weekly photos and replies to every review. Nothing is broken; it is simply outranked on completeness and relevance.

The second reason is drift: a phone number changed on the website but not the profile, hours that no longer match, an old address still on directories. Google lowers trust in a profile whose details disagree with the rest of the web.

If the details disagree across the web, start with citation cleanup

The details stopped agreeing, and Google trusts the profile less each year.
Drift: the usual reason a profile that once ranked stops.

What we change in the profile

Every item below is checked against the three profiles currently in the map pack for your main search, not against a generic checklist.

Categoriesprimary set to what the winning profiles use; secondary for every other line of work.
Services and productslisted individually with descriptions, photos and price ranges.
Descriptionwritten around the searches, not the mission statement.
Photosexterior, interior, team, work in progress, monthly, captioned with locations.
Postsrecent jobs, offers and new stock, every month.
Detailsattributes, hours, holiday hours, appointment and quote links kept current.
Reviewsreplies within one business day, and a request routine after each job.
Q&Aseeded with the questions customers actually ask.

Setup versus optimization

Setup is claiming the profile and filling the required fields once. Optimization is matching the profile to the market and keeping it that way. A profile is compared against competitors every time someone searches; it needs the same attention.

How profile optimization fits with Maps ranking

Optimization makes the profile eligible; ranking work decides where it lands for a given search. If you are already in the map pack for your brand name but not for "your trade plus city", the profile is fine and the ranking work is the next step.

The audit

What the audit checks before we touch anything

The free audit is the first step of this service, and it is specific. For your main search, from your city, we record the three profiles in the map pack and compare yours on each of these:

Categoriesprimary and secondary, yours against the three winners.
Services and productshow many are listed, and whether each has a description.
Photoscount, recency, and whether captions carry locations.
Reviewstotal, rating, how many in the last 90 days, reply rate and reply speed.
Detailshours, holiday hours, attributes, appointment and quote links.
Postswhether there are any, and how old the last one is.
Q&Awhether the common questions are answered by you or by strangers.
Consistencyname, address and phone against the website and the main directories.
What we find

Mistakes we find most often

After several years of audits the same errors keep appearing. None of them is exotic; all of them cost calls.

  • A primary category chosen because it sounded impressive rather than because it matches the search. "Contractor" instead of "Roofing contractor"; "Warehouse" instead of "Material handling equipment supplier".
  • Services listed as three words with no description. Google matches on the description text as well as the name.
  • A single photo from the day the profile was created, usually the logo.
  • Reviews with no replies for a year or more. Google shows the reply rate; buyers read it as "nobody is home".
  • Hours that no longer match the door, especially after the clocks change or a holiday.
  • Keywords stuffed into the business name. It sometimes works for a while, and then the profile is suspended.
  • The website link pointing at the home page when a service page would convert the click.
The plan

What it costs

Profile optimization is the Profile plan: $249 a month, with a first month of $449 that includes the full rebuild. One location. Additional locations are $149 a month each. No contract; the profile and everything in it stays yours if you stop.

Common questions

Do you need access to my profile?

Yes, manager access on the profile. You keep ownership; we never ask for your Google account password.

How long does optimization take to show?

Category and service changes usually show in searches within a few weeks. Review and photo effects build over months. We report monthly so you can see it move.

Can I do this myself?

You can. The audit tells you exactly what to change, and some owners do it themselves. Most hire us for the monthly upkeep, because a profile that is left alone slides back.

What if I have more than one location?

Each location gets its own profile, each optimized for its own market and reported separately.

Do you work with businesses outside the US?

Our work is for US businesses. Every client named on this site is a US company.

Will you change my business name on the profile?

Only to make it match your legal or trading name. If the name currently carries extra keywords or a city, we remove them, because that is a suspension risk and Google is stricter about it every year.

What about Google posts, do they still matter?

Less than reviews and categories, but they show an active business and they appear on the profile when someone searches your name. We post at least monthly; more in season.

Can you optimize a profile for a business with no website?

Yes. The profile ranks and takes calls on its own. When you are ready for a website, the plan includes pages on it.
